The Forsaken: A Rising Number of Homeless Gay Teens Are Being Cast Out by Religious Families

pacerlabs:

This is actually a really, really well done article. long but absolutely worth the read. So glad that a magazine as big as Rolling Stone is publishing content saying, “Hey, people, we may be patting ourselves on the back about marriage equality these days but there are much bigger issues still being swept under the rug.”

Full-Page Ad Calls for Cardinal’s Resignation

ADVOCATE.COM GEORGE TRIB AD | 390

The LGBT rights group Truth Wins Out is taking out a full-page ad in Sunday’s Chicago Tribune calling on the city’s Catholic archbishop, Cardinal Francis George, to resign because of his comments comparing a gay pride parade to a Ku Klux Klan march.

The ad is headlined, “Hey, Cardinal Francis George, Gay is not like the KKK,” and it calls his remarks “offensive” and “unconscionable.” George made the comparison in an interview last week with a Chicago TV station regarding a controversy over the schedule for next year’s parade, which would have gone by a Catholic church during Sunday services. The parade’s start time was then moved from 10 a.m. to noon so as not to inconvenience worshippers, and George made conciliatory comments but then reiterated the comparison in an official statement on the archdiocesan website this week.

“This is not a legitimate fight over religious liberty as George wrongly implies, but a vivid example of religious bigotry fueled by a mean-spirited analogy that linked innocent, law-abiding families with the KKK,” said Truth Wins Out executive director Wayne Besen in a press release. “We will stand up against such lies and speak out when LGBT people are unfairly maligned.”

Truth Wins Out has also gathered more than 4,000 signatures on its Change.org petition calling for George’s resignation.

Orthodox Rabbis Warn of “Dangerous Homosexualist” Named Mittens

by Evan Hurst

Mittens the Dangerous Homosexualist

Oh, Mittens! You’ve gone and rustled up the ire of the wackiest fringe rabbis in the land! Why, they have given you a new title, that of “dangerous homosexualist!” Oh, dear:

The statement today comes from the Rabbinical Alliance of America, which describes itself as an organization of 850 Orthodox Jewish rabbis in the U.S. and Canada, who serve some 500,000 religious Jews.

[…]

The statement attributed to Rabbi Yehuda Levin said that Hannukah marks the defeat of the Syrian Greek efforts “to impose their pagan culture on the Jewish people.” That included, he said, the increased emphasis on homosexual behavior.

“While our organization does not make any endorsements of political candidates, in view of the disastrous national decline in morality, we are compelled to condemn Mitt Romney’s support and promotion of the immoral homosexual lifestyle and agenda,” his statement said. “While we sympathize with those challenged by homosexual urges, or a desire for minors or adultery, they all remain prohibited activities that debase the practitioners and demoralize society. Gov. Romney over a long political career has earned the title: ‘Dangerous Homosexualist’ – one who constantly advances the militant anti-religious, anti-society, immoral homosexual agenda to the detriment of family people.”

Oh, Yehuda, for him to “constantly” be advancing anything, he’d have to be capable of having a single opinion on an issue for more than five minutes.

I am happy, though, to have a new thing to call him: Mittens The Dangerous Homosexualist. It’s like a whole new Mormon superhero!

Chi. Cardinal Repeats Gay-Klan Analogy

CARDINAL FRANCIS GEORGE X390 (GRAB) | ADVOCATE.COM

After softening his remarks comparing gay pride parade participants to the Ku Klux Klan, Chicago’s Roman Catholic archbishop has repeated the analogy in an official statement on the archdiocese’s website.

Cardinal Francis George’s initial statement came last week during discussion of a controversy over the schedule for next year’s parade, which would pass a Catholic church during Sunday Mass. While the schedule was subsequently changed to accommodate worshippers, George’s comments have led to intense criticism and calls for his resignation.

He appeared conciliatory during a Christmas Day television interview, saying the comparison was “not with people and people — it’s parade-parade,” but a statement posted on the archdiocesan website Tuesday says the parade’s “organizers invited an obvious comparison to other groups who have historically attempted to stifle the religious freedom of the Catholic Church. One such organization is the Ku Klux Klan which, well into the 1940’s, paraded through American cities not only to interfere with Catholic worship but also to demonstrate that Catholics stand outside of the American consensus.”

He continued, “It is terribly wrong and sinful that gays and lesbians have been harassed and subjected to psychological and even physical harm. These tragedies can be addressed, however, without disturbing the organized and orderly public worship of God in a country that claims to be free. I am grateful that all parties concerned resolved this problem by moving the Parade’s start time so as not to conflict with the celebration of Mass that Sunday.”

The Catholic LGBT group Rainbow Sash Movement issued a statement today urging George to step down, reports Windy City Times, whose editor has also called on him to resign. “His attempts to unite Catholics in his political war against Civil Unions in the Illinois have failed miserably,” the statement reads. “Most Catholics support the right of Gay and Lesbian people to love who they choose to. Catholics have not bought into the Cardinal’s bigotry of trying to demonize GLBT people for legalizing their relationships under the law.”

Cardinal George Softens Remark About Gays, KKK

CARDINAL FRANCIS GEORGE X390 (GRAB) | ADVOCATE.COM

During a series of pastoral visits on Christmas Day, Cardinal Francis George attempted to clarify comments he made three days ago about the gay community.

On Wednesday, George warned Fox News that a planned route taking Chicago’s Gay Pride parade past one of the city’s oldest Catholic churches could lead to marchers morphing “into something like the Ku Klux Klan, demonstrating in the streets against Catholicism.”

Speaking to Chicago’s ABC News 7 on Sunday, George said, “Obviously, it’s absurd to say that the gay and lesbian community are the Ku Klux Klan, but if you organize a parade that looks like parades that we’ve had in our past because it stops us from worshipping God, well, then that’s the comparison, but it’s not with people and people — it’s parade-parade.”

43% Of College Catholic Groups Support Gays - Right Wing Furious!

by David Badash

43% of college campus Catholic groups support gays and LGBT rights, and the religious right, especially one para-military “Catholic” group, is furious. TFP (Tradition, Family, and Property) Student Action, an anti-gay neo-fascist para-military cult closely tied to a group accused of assassination plots on both the Pope and Reagan, asks,

Why are pro-homosexual clubs allowed to promote anti-Catholic behavior on Catholic campuses?”

After examining the official web sites of 244 Catholic universities and colleges in America, TFP Student Action found that 107 – or 43% – recognize student clubs that favor the homosexual agenda. Many of these clubs promote same-sex “marriage,” open homosexuality in the military, and push for the mainstreaming of unnatural vice,” TFP writes.

Attacks on Obama Administration’s LGBT policy shames Christianity

(TRIGGER WARNING: mention of ‘corrective’ rape)

By Alvin McEwen

On Tuesday, the Obama Administration took a huge step against LGBT persecution worldwide:

The Obama administration is announcing a wide-ranging effort to use U.S. foreign aid to promote rights for gays and lesbians abroad, including combating attempts by foreign governments to criminalize homosexuality.

In a memorandum issued Tuesday, President Barack Obama directed U.S. agencies working abroad, including the State Department and the U.S. Agency for International Development, to use foreign aid to assist gays and lesbians who are facing human rights violations. And he ordered U.S. agencies to protect vulnerable gay and lesbian refugees and asylum seekers.

Also, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton made a monumental speech in Geneva in which she basically broke it all down to the simple fact that gays rights are human rights.

The Obama Administration was no doubt spurred by acts of LGBT persecution in such places as Nigeria, Uganda, Russia, and South Africa. In Nigeria, Uganda, and Russia, the legislature is considering laws which would imprison LGBTs and those who support them. In South Africa is a practice called “corrective rape” in which a lesbian would be sexually assaulted in hopes of turning her heterosexual.

Naturally, religious right groups and some of those on the right in general aren’t happy with the Obama Administration over this new policy or Clinton’s speech.

Amidst the usual whinings about the so-called radical gay agenda, two statements stand out.
