A Vital if Unpopular LGBT (and Asexual) Civil Right

ace-reporter:

I know many of you are against guns, but I think self-defense weapons should be covered under the second amendment as well. It is dangerous for people who are perceived as different and active and passive steps to defend yourself is a good idea.

Personally, I carry pepper spray just in case. I will also be replacing my stun gun at some point.

random poll, I follow a lot of ace blogs and oftentimes comes up the subject of abstinence and celibacy. Of course with asexual people they don’t necessarily want to ever have sex, so what word do you use? Of course abstinence or celibacy do not equal asexuality and vice versa but since there are asexual people who have sex out of love for their partner or whatever their personal choices may be, for those who don’t have sex do you call yourself abstinent or celibate? Celibacy is just abstaining from sex and abstinence is the practice of restraining oneself from indulging in something. Since there are people who refrain from sexual conduct who don’t have to restrain are either of these words a good description of that. Is there another word that is better suited?

Coming Out: The Plan

neutrois:

This is getting some good reads (I just re-read it myself!) so I thought I’d pass it along. Sometimes I should follow my own advice more…

I’ve come out to many people in many ways. I’ve received a wide variety of reactions; thankfully I’ve made it through the bad ones, and still cherish the good ones. Here are five points I wish I would’ve had as a coming out plan (not that I ever had a plan in the first place).

Anonymous asked: I'm pretty sure my boyfriend is asexual. Now, I'm not terribly sexual myself, but when I DO get horny I feel like I can't talk to him or be dirty with him because of how disinterested he seems. I know this isn't much of a sex ed question, but is there anything I can do to make this less awkward?

The only way you can know someone’s orientation is by asking them. Just ask them how they feel about sex and sexual things and encourage them to be thoroughly open and honest with you. You can go from there after you find out his thoughts.
